The Green Train
The New River Scenic Railway will be one of the first scenic railways in the United States to be run on biodiesel fuel. Nicknamed the "Green Train" it will be fueled by biodiesel from neighboring Morgan County. Northington Energy LLC has created a new ultra refined biofuels research and development facility in Morgan County, located within the company's new 15,000-square foot biodiesel plant in Wartburg Tennessee. It is the first soybean oil processing plant in Tennessee, as well as the first research and development facility in the United States to focus entirely on renewable racing fuels and related engine testing.
The locomotive is a 1951 Alco RS3 model with a 1,600-horsepower diesel engine. It is painted up old Southern Railway green with striping and emblems.
